User Guide
The program works with iPhone 3G, the original iPhone, and iPod touch*.
* Due to no built-in microphone, the recorder and playback functions do not work on iPod touch.
1. Using the program as a learning tool
The program allows flexible learning pace and method. You can choose to learn
step-by-step from phonic to words and expressions; then, review and evaluate your learning
by using the terms/phrases quiz. You can also go directly into anyone of the sessions and
jump back and forth.
With the resume and learning record functions, you are free to learn on your own pace and
time. You can always come back to the last learning item by using the resume button on the
front page of the program and check on which item is completed when looking at the learning
item list.
Learning functions
Model sound - Play button
Description: Human voice recordings of the learning items and exercises.
Purpose: Vocal model of the learning items and exercises for you to listen to.
Access/Location: Press the PLAY button on the learning item page.
Recorder and playback - Practice and Playback buttons
Description: Interactive functions of the program.
Purpose: Unlimited times of practice functions for you to record your own Chinese practices
and to playback your recordings for review.
Access/Location: Press the RECORD/PLAYBACK button on the learning item page.
Question and multiple choices style exercises
Description: Learning checks in question and multiple choices style.
Purpose: Easy to use exercises for you to check on your learning status.
Access/Location: At end of each learning session and in the terms and phrases quizzes
Recent learning item resume
Description: Interactive functions of the program
Purpose: Unlimited times of resume function for you to go back to the last learning item
when returning to the program
Access/Location: Press the RESUME button on the front page of the program
Learning record
Description: Marks of the visited learning item
Purpose: Learning records to show the learned items.
Access/Location: Check marks on the right of the learning item list
Learning score
Description: Score in percentage
Purpose: Result of the Learning quizzes.
Access/Location: At end of each quiz and on top of the quiz page

Purpose: For you to find all learning items of the search key word you typed
Access/Location: Press the LEARNING ASSISTANCE button on the program category page
Phonic table
Description: A phonic table with Chinese samples and English descriptions
Purpose: A reference and summary of all phonic Initials and Finals to assist your learning
Access/Location: Press the LEARNING ASSISTANCE button on the program category page
2. Using the program as a dictionary or a translator
The program allows you to type in English to find all items with the search key word. You can
then select the desired item to show either the Chinese text on screen or to play the vocal
model of the item.
Dictionary or translator functions
Model sound
Description: Human voice recordings of the items.
